Expressions of Interest for Broken Earth Complex at iconic Line of Lode reserve
Not for profit Foundation Broken Hill Limited has announced an exciting opportunity for a commercial operator to enhance one of NSW’s most unique Crown land reserves, the Line of Lode in Broken Hill.
An Expression of Interest has been opened until 31 December 2024 seeking an operator for the Broken Earth Complex Building at the reserve.
Perched atop mining overburden, the Broken Earth Complex and the adjacent Miners Memorial offer unparalleled views of the heritage-listed city of Broken Hill, drawing significant visits due to their deep ties to the region’s mining history.
Recent extensive refurbishments have been undertaken by Crown Lands to the Broken Earth Complex, including a comprehensive building overhaul complete with a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen, new cafe furniture, and upgraded landscaping and water infrastructure system for the reserve.
Foundation Broken Hill is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) from prospective operators with the vision and capability to harness the commercial potential of the site to support Broken Hill’s tourism industry.
Proposals for uses such as a café, restaurant, conference centre, wedding venue, art gallery, or museum are welcome.
While all creative and viable proposals are encouraged, those that include a café open 7 days a week, a night-time restaurant operating most of the week, or alternative uses that promote public engagement with the space will be considered favourably.
Key Features of the Broken Earth Complex include:
- Over 200m² of open seating space, complete with furniture.
- Fully equipped reception, bar, and office areas.
- Publicly accessible external restroom facilities.
- A modern commercial kitchen with a spacious storeroom and a separate cool room.
"The Broken Earth Complex stands as a testament to Broken Hill's rich mining heritage and offers a unique opportunity for operators to create a vibrant community hub," said Travis Nadge, CEO of Foundation Broken Hill.
"We believe that with the right vision and dedication, this site can become a dynamic centre that not only respects its historical significance but also serves as a modern space for locals and tourists alike. We are excited to see innovative proposals that will enhance the visitor experience, strengthen the local economy, and create long-lasting value for the Broken Hill community."
