White Cliffs western land leases

The Department is offering White Cliffs dugout tenure holders perpetual (permanent) western lands leases.

The leases provide permanent security for White Cliffs dugout residents, with perpetual Western land leases providing the highest level of tenure available that can coexist with native title.

The new tenures incorporate most of the existing conditions, like rent and purpose.

Community engagement

From November to December 2023, we met face-to-face with tenure holders to gather feedback and discuss the draft terms and conditions. After reviewing this feedback, we have simplified and revised the lease terms to better fit the unique local circumstances.

Next steps

The Department will discuss the lease offers with dugout residents to address any questions and assist with finalising the lease documents.

If you plan to sell or buy a dugout, you need to offer First Right of Refusal to Barkandji Registered Native Title Body Corporation.
